Program Notes

Pursuit is a fast-paced opener for concert band that features all sections of the ensemble over the course of the work. Written in a seven-part rondo form with an opening fanfare, the orchestration of the ensemble changes each time a section changes in the form. After a brief fanfare, trumpets are featured in the opening section that is followed shortly by flutes and clarinets. The middle portion of the work emphasizes woodwind colors with clarinets, saxophones, and flutes. The final section features the entire ensemble with all three themes playing at the same time in an energetic coda.
