Frenetico is ripe with a wild and uncontrolled energy that hums through the length of the work. The main musical idea is the steady flow of triads that alternate between strict repetition and a sense of restless shifting before reaching the next static plateau. A melody emerges out of this texture and is subjected to several variations and transformations each time it returns. The energy of the piece reaches a frenzied state by the last few measures, and it is discharged by an explosive blast in the percussion on the final note.
