Program Notes

Fountain Place Fanfare is a musical depiction of the park that carries the same name located in Dallas, Texas. A garden area accompanied by fountains in downtown Dallas is a popular spot for residents and tourists alike, combining the relaxing atmosphere of fountains with towering, angular geometry of skyscrapers. The work attempts to depict both of these aspects; cascading chords run throughout the ensemble like the jets of the central fountain, while the main motive is a wide and angular musical gesture for the urban surroundings.
The pre-concert fanfares are a very popular portion of the Dallas Wind Symphony program, and it seemed fitting to reference another popular location in the same city. Fountain Place Fanfare is humbly dedicated to the musicians of the Dallas Wind Symphony and the associate conductor, Dr. David T. Kehler.
