Joseph Eidson (b.1981) holds degrees in composition from the University of Kansas (DMA 2010, BM 2004) and the University of Texas (MM 2006). His music contains rhythmic drive, crisp harmonies, and a preference for lyrical melodies.
His music has been performed throughout North America and abroad.
Awards include the Metropolitan Wind Symphony 40th Anniversary competition (first prize), 2010 Opera Vista Festival (semifinalist), Aurora Borealis Composition Competition (third prize), Helianthus Ensemble Call for Scores (winner), Music09 Competition (honorable mention), George Lawner Orchestra Prize (winner), Dallas Wind Symphony fanfare competition (winner), ASCAP / CBDNA Frederick Fennell award for concert band (honorable mention), the Penn State trombone choir composition competition (winner), and a Presser scholarship at the University of Kansas. Major teachers include Dan Welcher, James Barnes, Donald Grantham, and Forrest Pierce.
Dr. Eidson and fiancee Julia currently live in Kansas City, Missouri with their feisty cats Gabby and Winston, who both enjoy sleeping on top of any available manuscript paper.
